The GSEVA is optimistic of the $5,000 incentive amount for electric vehicles recently announced as part of the federal government’s 2019 budget.
The details we know so far is that this will apply to EVs under $45,000 MSRP. The government has set aside $300 million over 3-years to fund the incentives.
An additional $130 million over 5-years was also announced to support charging stations in public areas (such as parks) across Canada.
Details surrounding this funding such as the start date, caps for battery size, eligible vehicle models (PHEV vs BEV), etc were not announced and will not be available until the Budget item has passed and Transport Canada develops the incentive program.
